The value and number of payment transactions with cards issued by resident payment service providers increased by 60% in June 2021 compared to June 2019, thus accelerating the digitisation process in the banking system during the pandemic, according to the analysis DreptulLaBanking, based on statistical data of the NBR, reports Agerpres.
Tthe restrictions imposed in the pandemic context led to an increase in the use of cards issued by banks in 2020, a trend that was maintained and even amplified in 2021. The number of payment transactions with cards issued by resident payment service providers increased by 61% in June 2021 compared to June 2019; to 327 million from 203 million in the pre-pandemic year.
The value of card payment transactions increased by 60%, to RON 41.4 billion at the end of June 2021, compared to RON 25.8 billion two years ago. Compared to June 2020, the increase in the value of credit card transactions issued by resident payment service providers was 46%, similar to the advance in the number of transactions.
