Consumer prices continued to rise in the first month of autumn and consequently the annual the inflation rate rose to 6.3% in September, up from 5.3% in August, reports Euractiv.
Compared to September 2020, prices of non-food products were 8.71% higher, while food became more expensive by 4.26%, and services by 3.75%, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics. In September prices rose by an average of 0.8%.
Inflation has accelerated since the middle of this year as rising energy prices have impacted the economy.
Compared to the beginning of this year, electricity prices are more than 23% higher while gas prices have risen by 20.5%. Fuel prices have risen approximately 14% during 2021.
