“The energy sector in Romania is in the middle of a complex transition”, Valentin Bargau, Chief Investment Officer at Restart Energy told Business Review. Bargau was a speaker at Business Review’s Environmental & Sustainability Summit 2021.

In order to meet the environmental targets as well as the needs of the economy, the energy sector will have to accelerate its transition to more sustainable energy production sources, better software integration and smart grid development. “I think these elements will provide more energy autonomy for Romania in the future”, said Bargau

According to Bargau the energy sector has a lot of interest in developing renewable projects. This trend was accelerated in the past year and a half and he expects it to accelerate further because of green initiatives in Europe and the United States. Restart Energy itself has around 550 MW of solar projects in various stages of development and will start bringing them online in 2022.

He expects energy prices to remain volatile and in general higher than previously due to political, economic and geopolitical factors. “The fact is that it’s time for us to realise the green transition has a cost and this will be incorporated in the energy prices in the future”, concludes Bargau.
