Romania’s national football team failed to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar despite a win over Liechtenstein (2-0). Dennis Man (8′) and Nicușor Bancu (87′) scored the goals for Romania in and against Liechtenstein.

In order to have a chance to go to Qatar by finishing as runner-up in Group J, the Tricolorii had to win their final match in the qualification stage and hope that North Macedonia would draw or lose their home game against Iceland. Yet North Macedonia beat Iceland 3-1.
