Editorial: PNL-PSD coalition?

PNL-PSD alliance

On Monday both PNL and PSD agreed to enter into negotiations to form a PSD-PNL-UDMR government, after President Klaus Iohannis announced last week that he is not yet calling on parties to start consultations. The leadership of the Social Democrats did so unanimously, reported Digi24, whereas the PNL’s National Political Bureau was split. The Liberals announced in a statement that among the principles it will uphold in the negotiations are the appointment of a PNL prime minister, the implementation of judicial reformsand the closure of the MCV. “Remaining in government is not an end in itself for the PNL, but is a necessity for fulfilling all the objectives assumed in the governing programme.

The negotiations will start tomorrow, with a clear roadmap, related to the objectives of the PNL governing program”, announced the PNL on Facebook. The PSD apparently wants to introduce progressive taxation to replace the current 10% flat tax, reports Romania Insider. Apparently, a new PNL-PSD-UDMR government would have a “Minister of the Family” to replace the Minister of Labour, which is a “backdoor method of introducing the toxic ideology of Putin and Orban into the Romanian administration”, writes MP Ovidiu Raetchi (PNL) in Libertatea.
