Industry stagnates, dragged down by disruptions in car production

Romania’s seasonally-adjusted industrial production index stagnated in August for the fourth month in a row, dragged down by disruptions in the automobile industry and long-term contraction of light industries, reports bneIntelliNews.

Car production halved to 29,077 units in September compared to the same month last year (57,846 units). The output was also lower than in September 2019 (37,153 units), which was before Dacia and Ford launched new models. Although carmakers had hoped that the shortage of semiconductors would have been resolved this autumn, production data show that the problem has become even more pressing.
