As infections skyrocketed from around 1,000 daily cases a month ago to more than 10,000 new cases on Friday, 1 October, over 5,000 far-right protesters marched in Bucharest to reject upcoming new restrictions that authorities hope will combat COVID-19, AP reports.

Healthcare group MedLife estimates that there are on average 35,000 daily cases in Romania — five times more than officially reported.

Minister of Health Attila Cseke expects the fourth wave to peak in mid-October with an average of 20,000 cases a day, reports Digi24.

A leading Romanian intensive care specialist told Digi24 that dying corona patients are begging for jabs when it is too late. He described the situation in Romania’s overflowing ICUs as “hell”.
